More than half of the UK’s homes waste energy through heat escaping through walls. This is partly why our energy bills are so high; it is not the actual price of gas and electricity that is high but the fact that our houses waste so much energy. We need to be implementing more measure to make our homes more energy efficient to bring down these high heating bills. secoTHERM also improves the look of the outside of your house. By repelling water from the walls dirt in the air doesn’t have anywhere to cling to; the particles are simply washed away when it rains. When water collects in the pores of the wall, it causes damp. Damp walls act like thermal bridges by transferring more heat than if the cavities were filled with air. Recent tests have shown that a damp content of 5% in a plain brick wall can lower insulation performance by up to 50%. This is especially true if cavity wall insulation has been installed because when the insulation is wet it loses its thermal value.
